Tonight we enjoyed a bottle of 2006 Ravens Woood Old Vine Zinfandel (Lodi California). I first tasted this wine at a restaurant in the Grand Canyon. I remembered enjoying the wine then (though that trip was in 2006, so it was likely a different year) so I decided to buy a bottle.
This Zinfandel has a big nose (i.e. the wine smells good and you can really smell it). It is not overly fruity and might be described as dry as the finish leaves you with a slight "puckering" feeling in your mouth.
My wife and I used to gravitate to Cabernet Savingon and Zinfandel, but I think my tastes are changing and I tend to prefer Pinot Noir over other grapes.
